Wiha, a well-known company for its premium German hand tools for professional use, is making a new future of hand tools with revolution and sustainability management upon 80 years of company history.
이하는 1939년 독일 부퍼탈 지역에서 창업주 빌리 한(Willi Hahn)이 설립한 수공구 전문 제조사다. 2대 빌프리드 한(Wilfried Hahn)에 이어 현재 빌헬름 한(Wilhelm Hahn)에 이르기까지 3대째 가업을 이어오고 있다. 초기에는 소규모 가족기업으로 시작했으나 80년 이상 역사를 이어오며 굴지의 세계적인 수공구 브랜드로 성장했다. 이하(Wiha)는 창립자 빌리 한 이름에서 앞 글자를 따 지어진 이름이며, 로고의 육각 이미지는 너트와 볼트를 의미한다.
Wiha is a professional manufacturer of hand tools founded by Willi Hahn, in 1939, in Wuppertal, Germany. After Wilfried Hahn, the 2nd generation of the Hahn family, Wilhelm Hahn, the 3rd generation, joined executive management. Initially, it started as a small family-run business, but it has grown into a leading global hand tool brand with more than 80 years of history. Wiha is named after the first letter of the founder Willie Hahn, and the hexagonal image of the logo means nut and bolt.

Wiha’s biggest strength lies in producing with full automation of processed screwdriver tips and injection molding technology for the plastic handle. It has been focusing on developing products to simplify and improve the professional’s everyday life worldwide by producing screwdrivers, torques, and special tools. Wiha now supports users with around 10,000 listed precision tools worldwide through the efforts of skilled technicians and strict quality control as well as product development based on users’ actual needs and requirements.
이하는 1943년 당시 전쟁으로 인해 부퍼탈 지역에서 블랙 포레스트 쇼낙지방으로 본사를 이전했다. 일명 검은 숲으로 불리는 블랙 포레스트는 수제 뻐꾸기시계로 유명한 곳이다. 1947년부터 스크류드라이버 생산을 시작했는데, 지역 시계기술자들의 손기술이 이하의 품질 높은 수공구 생산기술에 토대가 되었다.
In 1943, due to the war, the company relocated its headquarters from Wuppertal to Schonach in the Black Forest. The Black Forest is famous for a Cuckoo Clock’s hometown. The manufacturing of screwdrivers began in 1947, and the hand technique of those local watch engineers has been the foundation for Wiha’s high-quality hand tool production technology.
1976년 2대 빌프리드 한이 경영을 맡고 1985년 미국에 첫 해외법인을 설립하면서 글로벌기업으로서 행보가 시작됐다. 생산품목이 점차 확대됨에 따라 프랑스, 스페인, 영국, 중국법인 등을 설립했고, 캐나다, 핀란드, 네덜란드, 이탈리아, 호주, 베트남 등 20개국 이상에 영업지사를 두고 있다.
When Wilfried Hahn, 2nd generation, took over executive management in 1976, Wiha USA was founded as the first international subsidiary in 1985, starting its move as a global company. As the product range gradually extended, Wiha company group expanded with branches in France, Spain, the UK, and China. Furthermore, it has sales branches in more than 20 countries including Canada, Finland, the Netherlands, Italy, Australia, and Vietnam.

이하는 2018년 세계 최초로 e-스크류드라이버(speedE®)를 출시해 주목 받은 바 있다. 최근엔 일반형과 절연형 두 가지 다용도 비트 드라이버 포켓맥스(PocketMax®)를 출시했다. 전문가들 사이에는 여러 개의 개별 스크류 드라이버를 휴대하기보다 하나로 사용가능한 다용도 체결공구가 인기가 높다. 잦은 이동이나 높은 사다리 위에서 나사 작업을 하더라도 컴팩트한 사이즈와 가벼운 무게로 셔츠나 바지 주머니에 편하게 휴대가능하기 때문이다. 소프트그립드라이버, L키 및 T핸들렌치는 이하의 스테디셀러다. 최근 전기 기술자를 위해 필수 공구로 구성된 세트제품이 출시되면서 판매가 증가하고 있다.
In 2018, Wiha drew attention for launching the world’s first e-screwdriver (speedE®). Recently, it released PocketMax®, a multi-purpose bit driver with two types, a normal and an insulated type. Among experts, multi-purpose fastening tools, which can be carried as one, are more popular than carrying individual screwdrivers. This is because when you have to move frequently or screw on a high ladder, you can easily carry it in your shirt or pants pocket with its compact size and lightweight. The soft grip driver, L key, and T handle wrench are Wiha’s bestselling products. Sales are increasing with the recent release of professional tool case solution consisting of essential tools for electricians.
이하는 혁신정신이 기업의 뿌리임을 강조한다. 지난 2월에는 독일에서 가장 혁신적인 100대 중견기업에 선정됐는데, 이는 3번째 수상이다. 올해는 특히 132명의 전문가 그룹으로 구성된 심사에서 iF 디자인상을 수상하는 영예를 안았다. 수상작은 플라이어 렌치로 슬림한 디자인에 버튼 없이 조작이 가능하도록 설계한 것이 주효했다.
Wiha emphasizes that the spirit of innovation is the root of the company. In February, Wiha was crowned award the third time as one of the TOP 100 most innovative mid-sized companies in Germany. Especially this year, Wiha was honored by winning the iF Design Award, judged by 132 experts. Winning product is Plier Wrench. The main aspect of the winning work is its thin shape and button-free operation.

Wiha considers the main factors to grow and succeed together from employees to customers is maintaining an advanced corporate culture as well as producing excellent products. To follow its values as a member of Europe’s largest purchasing management association (BME), Wiha is trying to comply with a code of conduct that obligates the company to follow business conduct rules and principles of social responsibility. It also has a clear management system to conform with international environmental standards such as ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 and reduce environmental impacts. In particular, they are focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions through energy management.

Packaging is a representative part of which Wiha is advancing the concept of sustainability. In line with the motto “Expedient reduction and intelligent avoidance of plastic waste,” products have been available with sustainable cardboard packaging since 2015. Because as conventional blister packs become superfluous, existing packaging as well as new packaging is also being successively replaced, which will help significantly reduce plastic waste. Even today, Wiha is making a new future for the hand tool industry through Black Forest’s craftsmanship, market segmentation, and sustainable innovative management.
